Welcome to Issue 3 of Think Fishing. This month I decided to show you how I tackle a typical commercial fishery in the early spring when the fishing can be patchy and inconsistent.

The fish are waking up after winter and a long period of being inactive, and it’s typical of this time year to see fish fish, particularly carp, cruising around but not in a feeding mood. And it’s carp that I’m ultimately looking to catch, even though Geary’s Lake at the Packington Somers complex also has a good head of other species. Where you fish in the swim is important as are the baits and in this issue I’ll be showing my simple but effective approach that I use up and down the country at this time of year.

Just to give a you a clue for next month, I’ll be fishing a match on one of the most prolific commercial fisheries in the country so keep an eye out for that.
