Welcome to Issue 32 of Think Fishing and as we’re now firmly into the Autumn with Winter not too far away, I thought this issue was ideal to show how I fish with maggots. Maggots are right up there on my favourite baits list and at this time of year, as long as the venue I’m fishing isn’t teeming with small fish, they’re unbeatable. Why are they so good? I think the main reason is they’ll catch whatever is feeding on the day and it doesn’t matter whether it’s small fish or proper carp, the maggot will catch everything.

To show you my maggot approach, I’ve brought the camera crew to Monkhall Fishery, near Bridgnorth, which is a superb complex in very picturesque surroundings and with the quality of fishing on offer, I ended up having one of the most enjoyable day’s fishing I’ve had for a long time.
