Viaduct Fishery is the venue this month as England international Des Shipp tackles the Spring Pool in search of skimmers on the pole. Many anglers would fish maggots and casters but Des reckons that pellets are the way to go once the water gets cold and the fish become harder to catch.
THINK FISHING WITH DES SHIPP
Welcome to Issue 21 of Think Fishing and this month, with Winter upon us, I thought it would be a good idea to show you how I fish with pellets for silver fish. I fish Viaduct a lot in the winter and you need 25lb to 35lb to win the silver fish matches and that’s typical for a lot of commercials in the country that run silver fish matches or leagues. I like to use a pellet approach to target skimmers because you just don’t seem to be able to catch them on more natural baits like maggots or casters. It’s a great way fishing and the way I feed by creating both a positive and negative line on the long pole, is the best way I’ve found to cover myself for how the fish are feeding on the day. The best thing though is that I’ve used this method on other venues too and it works a treat so you really need to give it a go.
Hope you enjoy the watch and read and I’ll see you next month.
